Citation style

Use APA 7th edition author–date citations and reference formatting for revised and final manuscripts.

Reference list

Cite only sources that bear directly on the point rather than compiling exhaustive lists; shared preregistrations, materials, data and analysis scripts must carry a persistent identifier (e.g., a DOI) in the Research Transparency Statement, not the reference list.

Manuscript structure

1. Abstract
2. Introduction
3. Research Transparency Statement
4. Method, Results and Discussion
5. References with tables and figures embedded near their first discussion

Length and page limits

• Introduction, Discussion, footnotes, acknowledgements and appendices are limited to 2,000 words combined.
• Method and Results are outside that cap, though the guide says about 2,500 words is adequate in almost all cases.
• About 40 citations should be sufficient for most Research Articles, but this is not a hard cap.
