Why Folio exists
A paper used to pass through five or six programs: a search engine, a reference manager, a folder of PDFs, a word processor, and a style guide open in another tab. The researcher carried the work between them by hand, and every hand-off was a chance for a citation to go wrong.
Generative AI added a new way to fail. Language models produce references that look right and lead nowhere, and many universities answered with detectors that return a probability about a person. A probability cannot be checked, so a student accused on the strength of one has nothing to point to.
Folio keeps the whole job in one place and records it as it happens: the sources that were opened, whether each quotation matches its page, and how the draft changed from one saved version to the next. At submission the record goes with the work, and anyone can check it.

Folio does not score writing for signs of AI. It resolves each reference against Crossref, OpenAlex and the other public databases, flags retracted papers, and matches quotations to the page they came from.
It does not watch you type.
The authorship record is built from saved versions of the document. Folio does not log keystrokes and does not build behavioral profiles.
Your work stays yours.
Documents and sources are stored encrypted, never sold and never used to train models. You can export everything or delete your account at any time.
