The idea
An LTI 1.3 integration so instructors can add a Folio assignment inside the LMS their institution already runs — Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard — and have students launch it without a second login. Completed work and grades flow back to the LMS gradebook automatically through grade passback.
Why it matters
Most institutions aren't going to replace their LMS overnight, and they shouldn't have to in order to use Folio's integrity and research tools. Riding in through LTI lets a department adopt Folio for what it's good at — verifiable authorship, real research workflows — while the registrar's gradebook stays exactly where it is. It's the lowest-friction way onto a campus that already has a system of record.
Where we are
On our wishlist, not yet scheduled — this cycle's institutional build capacity is committed to SSO, SIS integration, enrolment holds, and the course-registration allocator. Enrolment, courses, and the registrar record surfaces that an LTI integration would build on are already in place, so it stays a strong candidate for later.
