Your public profile is a page at usefolio.co/@yourhandle, built from your verified work. It stays private until you turn it on, and every part of it is yours to show or hide. Everything below lives in Account settings → Profile.
Choose a handle
A handle is 3 to 30 characters: lowercase letters, numbers or underscores. Folio checks availability as you type and tells you if a handle is taken or reserved. Save the handle before you make the page public; the switch waits for it.
Public, and listed
Two separate choices:
- Public profile page: when on, anyone with the link can see your page.
- List me in the directory and feed: when on, your page also appears in the researcher directory, the feed and people search. Turn it off to keep the page public but reachable only by its link. This switch only applies while the page is public.
What your page shows
Your name, photo, bio, academic level and fields, research interests, affiliation, location, ORCID iD and the links you add (website, Google Scholar, LinkedIn, X, GitHub) appear on the page. Under What your profile shows you can turn off any of these sections:
- Publications
- Integrity Certificates
- Folio Reviews
- Shared discovery agents
A section you turn off is left out of the page, its share card and the downloadable portfolio.
Contact email
The contact email is a public address for people who read your profile, separate from the email you sign in with. It is hidden unless you turn on Show contact email on my profile, which is off by default and needs a saved contact email first.
Publications from ORCID
Save your ORCID iD, then choose Import from ORCID to bring in the public works on your ORCID record. Each imported work can be:
- Hidden: it stays in your list in Settings but does not appear on your profile. Show puts it back.
- Removed: it is deleted from Folio. Importing from ORCID again brings it back.
Changing your ORCID iD clears any verification that was attached to the old one. A Verify with ORCID option appears only where ORCID sign-in is set up on Folio, which it is not yet.
When Folio makes a profile private
Folio's staff can make a profile private. When that happens the public switch is locked and Settings says so. If you think it is a mistake, contact support.
